Treatments are frequently confused with conditioners. The term “conditioner” is used as a generalization to categorize different types of strengthening and moisturizing products. True conditioners are “surface acting" in that they only provide temporary protection and strength to the hair. They just supply a microscopically thin protective film giving smoothness and combability. Somewhat like a band-aid. This is very different from treatments which penetrate deep into the hair, restoring and maintaining internal strength and moisture. Conditioners are usually done every time hair is shampooed, while treatments are only applied when needed. They act as a medicine for your hair. And we all know, medicine should only be used when there is a proper diagnoses.
